Want to find out what’s so great about the Peugeot 208? Whether you’re exploring your options for your next trendy hatchback or are simply looking to compare between the electric, petrol or diesel options, this guide explains everything you need to know about the 2020 Car of the Year.
Superb Electric Vehicle Choice
With the option to have petrol, diesel and even in electric form, the 208 offers superb flexibility to suit all preferences. With the recent Government announcement of the production of diesel and petrol vehicles banned from 2030, the Peugeot 208 is a tremendous choice for those looking to switch over to a stylish, comfortable and flexible electric vehicle.
Unsurprisingly, the electric version of the 208 will set you back the most compared to the petrol and diesel versions, which should be a critical deciding factor if you’re thinking of buying brand new.
Smooth and Comfortable
If you’re on the roads very frequently, you’ll probably be looking for a car that’s comfortable on the roads as well as inside. Luckily, Peugeot has delivered with the 208, with the model providing incredible comfort on the motorway and better handling agility on windy roads.
Depending on the trim, ride qualities can differ. The model is designed to be comfortable on the road which is evident compared to its hatchback rivals of the Volkswagen Polo or Audi A1.
Top of the Range Features
Even from standard, the Peugeot 208 includes several top-of-the-range features, including a 7-inch touchscreen which is upgradeable to 10-inches, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. This means that you can safely answer calls, send text messages and use your apps without needing to take your eyes off the road.
Some optional extras include navigation, front/rear parking sensors and a reverse camera, although if you decide to buy brand new, the extras will cost you a significant amount.
Some of the top-of-the-range models also include a wireless charging surface for smartphones, these models are the ‘Allure’ range - with rear USB sockets also included. Top-end Allure models also include 3D navigation which displays on the touchscreen (a 3-year navigation subscription is included with brand new vehicles). 3D navigation is advanced navigation which includes updates on weather conditions and nearby amenities such as petrol stations and cash machines.
Moving up in the range tiers, you can also find the premium GT line trim which includes front and rear parking sensors. The GT line trim also includes upgraded interior trims, seats and exterior styling. An electric GT line alternative is the e-208 GT, which includes all of the above with a 10-inch touchscreen included as standard.
Body Styles and Exterior Styling
The all-new Peugeot 208 is only available in five-door body styles, with a range of trim levels (a total of six different trim levels). These trim levels include Active, Active Premium, Allure, Allure Premium, GT Line and the e-208 GT trim, which are all fitted with sleek, gloss-black wheel-arch extensions.
Some of the differences in the different trim levels - the lower range active trim levels have 16-inch alloy wheels as default.
Ideal Family Car
As an ideal family car, the Peugeot 208 has a great amount of room for two adults in the front and children in the back. With that being said, adults may find the back seats a little cramped for space, particularly as the model is designed to have children or younger adults seated in the back.
It’s clear that while there is limited legroom in the back, adults seated in the front will have no issues getting comfortable. Given the compact nature of the 208, it’s no surprise that tall passengers may struggle in the back. If you are looking for a more spacious hatchback, then the SEAT Leon or Volkswagen Polo may be more suitable for you.
